The film release of Mamma Mia

Well I could not resist it! I have seen this 3 times already and I think I will by it on DVD when it is released too….I have to say this is the only film I have ever seen that many times, and why? It was just such a laugh. Always been a big ABBA fan and I love Julie Walters. Meryl Streep is always a good actress and of course, need I say anything about Pierce Brosnan. I’m sorry but bad singer or not he would beat me hands down and I have to say that he has guts to get up and sing opposite Meryl Streep who has such a strong voice! It only adds to the fun of the whole movie. The actors and actresses were all cast perfectly in the movie and I actually prefer the movie “Mamma Mia” to the play I saw in both London and Edinburgh. Roll on the DVD release and I do hope that Amanda Siegfried’s acting is well recognised as for someone I cannot picture from any other show. Please give me your feedback in my blog poll
Back to work I guess – kids to get to bed now.

Useful and useless clothing labels for school uniform

Today was another busy day at work and a friend popped in to discuss why her iron-on labels would not stay on her daughter’s clothes…yes, they take advantage of my inside information and pop in for coffee as well! So with hundreds of things going on we ended up with coffee and biscuits over the ironing board! Just another hectic day here and not out of the norm…now I do DETEST ironing. But when it comes to testing products I am happy to try out anything new or old on the market for my market research.

After much discussion we got into what I like and what I don’t and so here we go, I thought I would share it with you all. At the risk of sounding boring but, hey, we all have to face back to school soon whether we want to or not… and in Scotland we are going back in only 3 weeks! Ahhh I hear you yell! Or was that a “yippee” I heard from one or two of you? Start putting your labels on NOW so you know they work wherever you bought them from -
WHAT I FIND THE BEST FOR CLOTHES
The best clothing labels I have found recently are the ones that are by far the simplest solution – they STICK ONTO THE WASH CARE LABELS! No sewing or ironing is required. Millions of these labels are now in use and we receive many orders for them at http://www.labels4kids.com/ from frustrated parents who have tried just about anything on the market.
IRON ON LABELS
Some iron on labels are now very good but equally some are useless. The problem for parents is that all suppliers will say their labels are good, and there is no way of knowing until the labels are in a washing machine what the quality is like. Hot irons and children do not mix, so attaching iron on labels will be a job for adults. Labels4Kids Stikins ® labels can be applied by older children, Stikins ® are also easier and much more convenient to use. If you want to iron on labels because you want to see them on the collar of the top then go with our advice on the website. The tips and advice page gives good ideas.
SEW ON LABELS
Sew on labels are the most attractive labels and can be bought in a range of colours, fonts and sizes. For parents who have the time to sew labels in, or can pay somebody else to sew them in, then sew on name labels are a good durable solution. For non-sewers, busy parents or large families sew in labels can be a nightmare.
LAUNDRY MARKER PENS
You can simply write in your child’s name with a laundry marker pen, if your child’s name is short or can be easily abbreviated this can be a good cheap solution. The problem is that many garment tags do not leave any space for writing a name. The result may not look particularly good, and may fade away. Also children like to see their own names in full rather than an abbreviated version. The full name is also good for children who are learning to recognise their name.
LABELS4KIDS SCHOOL NAME LABEL SOLUTION
Of course washing machines are designed to remove dirt from clothes using friction, heat and detergents. So the environment in a washing machine is one of the most hostile places for labels. Extensive tests and a new understanding of why labels fail enabled us to develop the product we now sell as Stikins ®. The garment labels are made from a nylon material which has a unique adhesive coating on the back. As you wash and dry the labelled garments you will see that the stikins ® label becomes more and more bonded to the wash care label. On the front of the label there is a special coating which is designed to exactly match the pigments we use to print the labels, the print will almost certainly outlast the life of most garments. The special “H” shape enables the vertical bars of the “H” to overlap at the back of the wash care label, the overlap is essential, and you can use a second “H” or a shoe name label if the garment wash care label is too wide. You could also trim the width of the wash care label if you wish.
SCHOOL NAME LABEL PRINTING OPTIONS
We keep our stick-on clothing labels simple and easy to manufacture by selling one colour, one font and 2 different product pack sizes. This keeps prices down and reduces the possibility of printing errors. Our systems automatically select a font size that fits on the label, so you can put up to 22 characters on a line, but remember the more characters you use the smaller the text becomes. We can print all UK letters and numbers and most of the Western European characters. You can have the traditional first name plus surname, or you can just have one name on the label. Some parents put surname and phone number so garments can be “swapped back” if children mix them up.
CONCLUSION
There are several methods for labelling school garments, all of which have advantages and drawbacks. The particular method you choose: Sew in, Iron on, or Labels4Kids Stick-on clothing labels, will of course depend on what is important to you, which is why my business sells a few options. Every parent has different requests and likes to see the labels in a different place on the clothing! Millions of garments are labelled with Stikins name labels and obviously we hope you will try them at some stage.

Back to school tips from a mum of 3

Here we go again…another year another holiday over and now we have to start planning to get back for the new school year already. The organised mums amongst us who have done all this school start thing before will go out and buy many things ahead like the lunch boxes and bags, the socks, the odd top or blazer. But what of the trousers, the shoes, and needless to say those dredded clothing labels? Did you even think of how you were going to name the other things like shoes, bottles, bags and lunch boxes especially if your child had any allergies to food, and also the sports kit?

ds-4resizedredstarterpackfordesignpage
Hoping I can give first timers a few tips from a mum of 3 who has done this all before, and how disorganised I really was the first time. I thought I knew it all but now 7 years on from my first experience of starting school I have learnt from the experience and try to help as many of my customers as I can as it is so important to get everything just as they want it to be.

First time around and first child syndrome well over now I tend to do all the things ahead that I can. Experience has told me that the trousers and shoes have to be more last minute because my boys keep growing like the sunflowers with the sun all summer! I always keep receipts for the shirts and blazers incase I have to go up a size at the end of summer but usually I buy big at the beginning of the holidays and can judge ok for the year after.
Being a retailer of the name labels I have done tonnes of research over the years on what is best for labelling the kit for all the boys things. I get my identity tags ready at the beginning of summer because, let’s face it, the kids are not going to grow out of their name labels! I love the shoe vinyl labels and I do believe labels4kids ones are the best. I also now opt for Stikins® to label their clothing because I don’t mind having the labels stuck on the care labels of the clothes and prefer no ironing and no sewing…lazy I may be but I also opt for the most time effective because goodness knows there is enough to do with the kids on holidays.

stikins-name-labels

Some of my friends prefer to have the name tag showing on the collar for the youngest kids in which case the original ironons are lovely, and the easy to use iron-on labels are quick and easy to use. Some parents are told they MUST use sew-on labels but this is really a myth as these days if you want the same look we do woven iron-on labels that can be ironed on instead but look like they are sewn on. You can also just sew the corners if you really want to.
The biggest tip I can give is to order EARLY wherever you get your labels from. Name tapes from uniform shops generally tend to be relatively cheap and not as good quality. Also there are no options of images or text colours and no solutions for anything other than clothing. The majority of their profits come from selling the uniform and labels are just seen as a necessary add-on printed in black text with one line only. Don’t take the quick and boring option. Go for something more interesting like the ones at http://www.labels4kids.com/ where the kids can get involved in choosing the images they want on their belongings and even get a matching gym bag or bag tag. Childrens belongings are far easier to identify and far less likely to be lost if the child likes them and can easily identify their kit.
Imagine a class of even 25 children all changing for gym in 5 minutes flat with matching black plimsoles and NO LABELS! A teacher’s nightmare! No wonder the lost property starts mounting up at the start of the year. Vinyl shoe labels are so colourful and individual and stick longer than the life of the shoe in most cases.

Don’t be fooled also by those mums trying to save money telling you that indelible ink is “just as good”…any of the school staff having checked out the lost property at the school will be able to confirm to you that “it fades” and it fades fast with the amount of washing and ironing done throughout the winter. I heard that an average parent spends £150 a year on school uniform per child. The cost is even higher in the public or fee paying schools. Don’t take the risk of losing it and having to buy another one. Label everything.

At the risk of being boring, check out Labels4kids award winning website. Recognised as a finalist in the Natwest Startups Awards Product of the Year Category in 2007 for its great product I really know about labelling and like to think any of our tips can help ease the burden if you are going through your first experience of sending your child off to school. Good luck on the first day and don’t cry too much when they go off not even looking back over their shoulder !

Inspirational party bags that last for reusing

Why did no one think of it before? Party bags by www.labels4kids.com. Think of all the money that goes into party bags for kids birthday parties. We fill them full of sweets and junky toys and stationery half of which is binned or lost once the little kids get back home and rip into it looking for the party cake! Now a few ingenious friends have come up with the idea of buying personalised gym bags from labels4kids as party bags. You can have each party attendees name on the bag and no need to pay the extra for an image if you want to keep costs down. Fill it with a blown up balloon, some popcorn or candy floss and whatever you like but keep it to a minimum as their mums will be SO IMPRESSED at the fantastic reusable bag that she can take to ballet, gym, swimming, on a plane the the nintendo and toys and stationery, or just on the picnic outing to the park. Also you can add great bag tags in or attached to the bags or some lanyards or id bands to use for fun.
Be the clever mum that beats the others to this wonderful idea at your school!
